Embracing Our Losses

Susan has always had a great passion to be of service to others. For over the past three decades, she has been involved in the helping profession in various capacities and has had the opportunity to study with many of the greatest teachers of our times. She has served individuals and groups of all ages and many diverse backgrounds and needs. Susan has been coaching and companioning for several years. Her positions have included:

Personal Experiences of Loss:

Throughout her years of service, Susan has gained so much wisdom from each person, who has trusted her with his/her life experiences. She has also dealt with many of her own personal losses including: the death of several loved ones, health, divorce, dreams, empty nest, relocation, as well other significant losses, some of which have often gone unnoticed, by even the closest of friends and family members. From her own suffering, grief, mourning and healing, she not only feels “called” to companion others, who have lost a loved one, but also honors her purpose to companion clients, who are experiencing losses, which society often is not comfortable acknowledging. These losses may include: chronic illness, grief in the workplace, loss of a partner in a non-traditional relationship and many other types of forgotten losses.

Susan has a comprehensive educational background to draw from for her present vocation in Grief Companioning and Self-Care Coaching. Her degrees include:

  • B.S. Special Education, Moorhead State University, Moorhead, MN.
  • M.S.Ed. Community Counseling, University of Wisconsin-Superior.

Personal Interests:

In addition to her passion for service, Susan is also an avid reader, a spiritual seeker and a life-long learner. She also enjoys family gatherings, wonderful friendships, cutting-edge conferences, traveling, independent film and art museums. She is married to an associate professor of social work and is a mother and step-parent.
